A few weekends back, I had the most exhilarating workout ever! No exaggeration. A group of friends and I rented Zip Cars and headed up to Staten Island for the Super Spartan.
I basically went into the run only knowing that I was going to 1. get dirty and 2. do 15-20 burpees if I couldn’t complete an obstacle (I had to youtube burpee before the event). The mystery made the event that much more exciting and I won’t spoil it for anyone interested in any mud run but I want to brag about it. So, here is a list of some of the obstacles we conquered: climb rope ladders, jump over walls, trail running, beach running, dragging cement blocks through sand, spear throwing (which I completed successfully, thank you very much), jumping over fire (as seen below), and more!
One of the best surprises was leaving the long strip of sewage I had to swim through and getting a greeting from Al Harrington! I gave him a high five, said we missed him on the Warriors and went on my merry way.

I finished the race in a respectable time - 1 hour 52 minutes, and finished 7th out of the women in my heat! I think I said “That was so fun” 50 times after the race and still look back fondly on that event. I’m excited to sign up for this event next year as well as the even longer Tough Mudder. The only concern I have between now and then is that regular exercise is going to be so boring in comparison. Anyone want to set up an obstacle course with me? Climb some trees in Central Park? Dodge some cabs?

Uncanny resemblance to Mario, don’t you think? And YES, I took a screenshot of my picture from the website and NO, I am not actually going to spend money and buy this photo.
